REMINDER

Caution Recommended at Caples Creek

and Silver Fork American River

Placerville, CA . . .

The fluctuating streamflows and water levels are the result of test flow releases from Caples Lake, which are necessary to perform stream monitoring along Caples Creek. The district must conduct the stream monitoring as an environmental requirement of the federal license to operate EID’s 21-megawatt El Dorado hydroelectric project.

The results of the monitoring will be used with other information to determine which streamflow levels are necessary to meet the ecological resource objectives for Caples Creek.

El Dorado Irrigation District is cautioning people to take care if they plan to visit Caples Creek or the Silver Fork American River from Monday, August 2, through Friday, August 6, 2010. Streamflows and water levels in Caples Creek and Silver Fork American River will be fluctuating and will likely make trail crossings hazardous and unusable.

We’ll Be Staying

WE’VE DECIDED TO CONTINUE POSTING ON THE FISHERY BLOG. HERE’S THE LATEST ON LAKE LEVEL INFORMATION. EID IS CURRENTLY RELEASING WATER TO CONDUCT ”GEOMORPHOLOGY MONITORING” OF THE CAPLES LAKE SPILLWAY CHANNEL AS WELL AS CAPLES CREEK TURBIDITY MONITORING (Definition of turbidity link). Expect high water in Caples Creek for the next week.

Hi Everyone– For current lake and fish pics look at our Caples Lake Resort blog

The lake is at 57.7 feet. Full is 62 feet- and still rising at 3 inches per day. The lake level of the spillway is 59 feet- it might get there. AMAZING! See pics of the almost full lake and water at the spillway at the blog.
